When she was 14, teen Bella Weems wanted her parents to buy her a new car for her 16th birthday. Her parents told the Chandler, Arizona, teen that she needed to pay for it herself. So, what did she do? She started her own company called Origami Owl. Her product was quite brilliant. She combined charms with a locket and called it a living locket. Today at 17 her company is worth $250 million!
Essentially her idea turned a simple locket into a way to add charms to it to make it into more of an item that folks could accessorize. She didn’t stop there though. She then turned the company into a type of network marketing company in which there was an incentive for those who bought the lockets to get others to buy them as well. This helped propel the company to the $250 million mark. And, yes, she now drives a shiny new white jeep that she paid for all by herself. And, at her company’s present value could probably buy 10,000 more just like it!
The genius million dollar idea of Bella Weems was basically a meeting of two items that she put together in a creative way and then super-boosted the sales of the product by adding a direct selling to the public component. Not bad for a teenage girl who initially just wanted to fund the purchase of a vehicle!
